Update on our National Bible Bee 2012 Preparations

August 14, 2012 0 Comments

Those of you who have followed my blog for at least a year know that my children have participated in the National Bible Bee competition since its inception in 2009. The Shelby Kennedy Foundation started the competition in honor of a young woman, Shelby Kennedy, who passed away from cancer in 2005. Shelby had a deep love for God’s Word and a Bible competitions seemed a fitting way to keep her memory alive. I had always had a desire to go deep with my children into God’s Word, so I signed them up for the Bible Bee as soon as I heard of it back in 2009.

I truly believe in the power of God’s Word to guide and direct a young person into right paths:

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. (Psalm 119:9, ESV)
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11, ESV)
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105, ESV)

The children have to memorize 25 passages from the Bible and complete a study of the book of 2nd Timothy. So far, we have completed memorizing all the passages and the 2nd Timothy guide(yay!) We are now in the process of nailing the verses down so that they are word perfect as well as reviewing the sword study book and remembering Greek Words, cross-references etc.

Here is my son reciting a verse from Philippians…

And my daughter reciting a verse from Job…

I have to say that I have learned so much from walking with the kids through the book of 2nd Timothy. We have had many excellent discussions about persecution and standing firm for the faith. The local competition is on the 25th of August. Wish us luck and we hope you will join us for the Bible Bee next year.

Blessings!

Sade
