Homeschool Astronomy: Venus’ Transit Across the Sun
Yesterday, June 5th, 2012, we got to watch the transit of Venus across the face of the sun. This rare astronomical event won’t happen again until 2117, so I was really excited that I got to share it with my children. I still remember viewing Haley’s comet with my father as a young child. Moments like that stay with you for a lifetime.
Even though my children are a little more knowledgeable than I was at their age, I hope this was still something special for them. Enjoy our video memory from the Broemmelsieck Park Observatory in Wentzville, Missouri where the Astronomy Society of Eastern Missouri set up many telescopes for the public to use. Thank you!

I’m SO glad you were able to witness this event with your children. We had planned a pretty big day in anticipation of it– even rented a house on the beach so we could watch the sun dip into the horizon– but we got clouded out and didn’t see any of it.
Yes, we are glad we got to see it as well. We’d had too much cloud cover to see the eclipse the previous month, so this was a treat!
